Busmopolitan Logo 02

Edited by John Podgorski BA Hons, MSc, CMILT.

Welcome to the November blog.
County Coaches of Brentwood has closed, after more than 50 years of trading. It shared a depot with Brentwood Coaches at Wash Road, Hutton and the sight of its smart white green and red fleet will be missed.
Following Network Harlow’s exit from Stansted, Whippet Coaches took over the National Express contract which TGM had operated from this location. Then on 17th November, Whippet was sold to Tower Transit, the Australian group who already has a presence on the fringe of the ‘Busmopolitan area’ with its Transport for London routes in the north east of the capital.
As well as National Express service 010, Whippet also has some college contracts serving the western fringes of Essex. Full details can be found in the main text.
The Great Eastern Main Line had problems in early November, when part of the overhead power supply was damaged at Kelvedon and the resultant disruption lasted many hours. Once again, this is examined in greater depth below.

ABELLIO GREATER ANGLIA.
The WB64 ‘Pretendelino’ MkIII carriage set, with DVT 82126 has been received from Virgin Trains. It is to be used to cover MkIII stock undergoing refresh.

360118 WRONG LINE (KN) 12-11-14
Above: 360118 runs wrong line through Kelvedon on 12/11/14, immediately before all services were suspended.

On 12/11/14, there was severe delays on East Anglia to London train services, caused by OLE coming down at Kelvedon.
All workings between Colchester and Witham were suspended at 0915, and did not resume for some 6 hours. Reduced speed was put in place at the location for a further 48 hours.
OLE SPEED RESTRICTION (KN) 13-11-14
Above: Taken on 13/11/14, the OLE fault was on the “up” (left hand) line, immediately before the arched bridge. The proximity of the double crossover made the situation more difficult, meaning extended bi-directional working on the “down” line, and resultant stopping of all traffic.
321310 SPEED RESTRICTION (KN) 13-11-14
Above: Also on 13/11/14, 321310 forms the rear of the 0923 Colchester to London service at Kelvedon; passing through the temporary 20 mph speed restriction in the wake of the OLE failure.
