Edited by John Podgorski BA Hons, MSc, CMILT.

Welcome to the January 2017 edition of Busmopolitan.
The main news this month is railway related. Both of the area’s passenger TOCs have seen ownership changes. One has completely changed management, while the other has a new minority partner. Both new players are from overseas.
Meanwhile, in the Capital, Go-Ahead has consolidated its bus operations by focussing them all on the London General operators licence. It is likely that the local identities of Blue Triangle, Docklands Buses, London Central and Metrobus will remain on vehicles and publicity. The fleets will continue to be reported separately.
We also have a bumper selection of aviation pictures this month.

During its history (of 20 + years), the 34/A was worked successively by Eastern National, First Essex, Stansted Transit, Regal Busways and finally Hedingham. It was Essex CC contracted in its latter period, but became commercial again in 2014. It is understood that some parties were interested in continuing the 34/A as a county council contract, if subsidy had been available.

On 25-26/1/17, there was further industrial action on the Central Line, lasting for 24 hours from 2100 on 25th January. No trains ran east of Leytonstone, and there was a reduced service on the rest of the line It was to do the displacement of 8 drivers based at the east end of the Central Line, to Earls Court train crew depot on the District Line. This was because overstaffing had been identified on the Central, and Earls Court was below establishment.
The eastern end of the Central Line has train crew depots at Debden, Hainault, Leytonstone, Loughton and Woodford. All are train stabling points, except Leytonstone, and Hainault is the traction maintenance depot for the area.
